In my opinion, this is one of DWJ's weaker attempts. Certainly not as good as 'Hexwood', 'Howl's Moving Castle' or 'Fire and Hemlock'.

I have to agree with colebear, this is one of Jones's weaker attempts. It just seemed to lack the magic that a lot of her other books had. The characterizations were strong, and the premise was interesting, but it was just so dry and technical at parts that it was difficult for it to keep my interest. There were a lot of explanations, but there were so many things that had to be explained that they were all necessary. They did, however, distract from the plot and the characterization and all the fun bits.
