Normally, I stay far away from Michener books. It's not that they are bad, it's just that they are so EPIC. In Mitchner's hands, minutia seems such huge mountain to climb. His books seem, in their way, more travelog than novels.
Still, as a writer who has never been able to write anything novel lenght, the minutia of getting published to fame and adulation and staying in your own small town began to seem attractive. It is something I wish for, you see.
It was educational and in that sense, I am glad to have read this sucker. I really did enjoy learning about the Pennsylvania Dutch

Between 10am and Noon, I'll be in the Verizon Yellow Pages booth in the commercial tent. That's probably where I will leave the book.
Since this book has many farmland scenes (ala Pensi-Dutch), I figured this would be appropiate.
