I enjoyed reading this tender story. I think the back cover says it all:
"She was my first kiss. My first love. She was a little match girl who could see the future in the flame of a candle. She was a runaway who taught me more about life than anyone has before or since. And when she was gone my innocence left with her.
As I begin to write, a part of me feels as if I am awakening something best left dead and buried, or at least buried. We can bury the past, but it never really dies. The experience of that winter has grown on my soul like ivy climbing the outside of a home, growing until it begins to tear and tug at the brick and mortar.
I pray I can still get the story right. My memory, like my eyesight, has waned with age. Still, there are things that become clearer to me as I grow older. This much I know: too many things were kept secret in those days. Things that never should have been hidden. And things that should have."
I would love to see this book travel and touch many lives!

Happy travels little book!
I've set a new record for myself. I received, read, journaled, and mailed this book to the next reader all within a 24-hour period!
GRACE is the fourth book written by Richard Paul Evans that I've read. As with his other books, I was drawn immediately into the story because of the setting. The story takes place in the Salt Lake Valley (Utah) and I've lived here for fifty-nine years. It created very real images for me as I read about fry sauce from McBurger Queen, school classes at Granite Park Junior High, grocery shopping at Warshaw's, the run-down home in South Salt Lake, etc.
I thoroughly enjoy Evans' storytelling style. In GRACE, the tale is told in first person through the eyes of a grandfather in my own age bracket. As I read, I felt like I was visiting with a life-long friend.
GRACE deals with the heart-wrenching tragedy of child abuse. It's a matter that I find incomprehensible and frightening. Although I will be sending the book itself onto the next reader in just a few moments, its powerful message has found a home in my mind and heart. Richard Paul Evans gives a challenge to his readers in a letter at the end of the book. I made a copy, and am turning his advice into action. As Eric states, "I'll fight for these children. I cannot save them all, but I can save some of them, and that's worth doing. There are other Graces out there." (page 106)
Thank you, PaulsBooks, for including me in this bookring.
It's on its way to GinnyRazo now.

Received in a bookring. Paul Ostler's Pass-Along Books: In memory of Paul some of his books are being passed along through BookCrossing. What a neat way to honor the memory of a child who liked to read!
Heart warming little book with a message! Ready to pass on to the next particpant.
Book arrived safely in KY today. Thank you for allowing me to share the journey. I will get started on it soon, and will try to read it in a timely manner.
I finished this book last week, but been so busy that I am just now getting to JE.
This was a WONDERFUL book, though sad somewhat at the end. I feel fortunate to have read it just in time for the Christmas season too, although it's not necessarily a Christmas book, per say.
Child abuse is all too real, and I can only hope that it is not ignored as much as it used to be, such as during the time frame of the story. I know that the story of fiction, but events such as happened in the story are sadly all too real.
Grace, Eric, and Joel are my heroes. Pretty awesome kids, if you ask me.
I don't want to say anymore-it would spoil it for the rest. :-)
Sorry for the delay in getting this mailed, but I plan to have it to the post office early this coming week.
Hope the next reader enjoys it as much as I did.

Received today. Looking forward to some peaceful reading amid the last minute holiday rush.
Oh my...this is such a tragically beautiful story, poignant and well-told, heartbreaking yet uplifiting. It touched me very deeply, especially during this Christmas season.
That the plot climaxes during Christmas week is part of its very special message.

Received in the mail today and can't wait to read it. I have two rings in front of this so please be patient. Thanks so much for sending and including me.
Once again Richard Paul Evans writes a very moving story. It is somewhat comforting to know that even though child abuse still exists, there is help out there for the victims, and hopefully not all end up as Grace did. I will mail this on within the next few days. Thanks for including and sending to me.

My thoughts: Heartbreaking story told from the 14 yo boy's perspective, about an abused runaway girl from his school that he hides to try to protect her. Setting is in the 1960's before child abuse really was known.
I had to put the book down every few chapters for a good think or a good cry, esp toward the end.

Journal Entry 38 by AnonymousFinder at Hastings, Hawkes Bay-Poverty Bay New Zealand on Thursday, August 19, 2010
This is beautiful heartwarming story about love and growing up. Its not set in my country (NZ) but the theme is universal and in these awful times where children are used as punch bags and life is not respected it was as topical as the day it was written.
