Purchased on eBay after having read The Sparrow which was kindly given to me by Nell-Lu as an RABCK. Will be used for a bookray.

A very good conclusion to The Sparrow. There were many events that I did not expect, which is one indication that it was well thought out. There was a lot more time shifting in this book so you had to be aware at the beginning of each chapter where and when you were but it did not take away from this very unique and intriguing story. Again a big Thank You to Nell-Lu for sending me The Sparrow as an RABCK and starting off this series.

A note about shipping:

As this is a bookray and the book will not return to me it does not matter how long it takes this book to make its way from person to person. So I would insist that when shipping this book please use the most inexpensive shipping method available to you, ESPECIALLY when shipping this book internationally.

Journal Entry 5 by Nell-Lu from Edinburgh, Scotland United Kingdom on Saturday, February 3, 2007
Hi everyone. I haven't physically caught this book (it's still en route to sarradee) but efs300 has sent me the BCID so that I can piggyback on the bookray. I'll be really interested to read all the JEs, and will also be reading the book myself soon - efs300 is sending me a second copy. So, thanks very much, efs300, both for letting me observe this copy's progress and for letting me have your second copy. I'm delighted I sent The Sparrow to you!

ETA: Here's the link to my journal entry on that second copy.

Journal Entry 6 by sarradee from Mansfield, Texas USA on Friday, February 9, 2007
Arrived safely today. Thank you for letting me be the start of the journey. :) I'll make a new post as soon as I'm done reading and have some thoughts.

Journal Entry 7 by sarradee from Mansfield, Texas USA on Saturday, February 17, 2007
I really enjoyed reading this book and finishing the story that started in The Sparrow. It answered many of the questions I had, and came up with some options I hadn't even considered. I liked the reader's guide, questions and interview in the back as well. Thank you efs300 for sharing!

Journal Entry 8 by sarradee from Mansfield, Texas USA on Wednesday, February 21, 2007
Nancydotslash asked to be skipped so I'll be mailing this off to Charlieboots76 by surface mail in the morning.

Journal Entry 9 by Charlieboots76 from Ringwood, Hampshire United Kingdom on Monday, April 23, 2007
Many thanks Sarradee I recieved the book this morning :) It is next on my list, because I can't wait to read it!

Journal Entry 10 by Charlieboots76 from Ringwood, Hampshire United Kingdom on Saturday, May 19, 2007
This is an excellent sequel. It nicely tied up some of the storylines and introduced some good new charachters. Like efs300 says you do need to keep an eye on the dates at the begining of the chapters as it can be a bit confusing.

I have now finished the book and it is on its way to PDB11.

Thanks Ed for sharing!

Journal Entry 11 by PDB11 from Oakhill, Somerset United Kingdom on Tuesday, May 22, 2007
The book has arrived! Many thanks!

I have two book ring books ahead of this in the queue, one of which is The Sparrow, so it will be a week or two before I can start it.

Journal Entry 12 by PDB11 from Oakhill, Somerset United Kingdom on Tuesday, July 3, 2007
I have now finished the book. I enjoyed it very much, although I don't think it is as good as The Sparrow. I do think that the two books together make something very special, though, and I'm now on the lookout for my own copies.

To me the book suffered from trying to be about too many different things. In The Sparrow we were definitely following Emilio's spiritual journey, and the rest, while important to the story, never usurped first place in our minds.

Here, however, we continue Emilio's journey, but we also expand our field of view to take in the other things that are happening on Rakhat - Sophia and Isaac's story, the revolution, and so on - which moves the book from a character-driven narrative towards a setting-driven one. Not to say that the setting isn't very good, but I thought it was better when it was the setting for Emilio's story. On the other hand we do find out why The Sparrow felt so hurried at the end: the story wasn't over!

Finally, though, I must say I am not convinced by the Society of Jesus' sending a bunch of thugs to run the mission!

Anyway, on to the next person. Nyassa hasn't responded to my enquiries about The Sparrow so I shall probably skip her and go straight to Annelis.

Journal Entry 13 by PDB11 from Oakhill, Somerset United Kingdom on Monday, July 23, 2007
I have finally despatched the book on its way to Annelis. Airmail, because when airmail is £4.20 and surface £4.16, there's not much saving to be made...

And Nyassa has also contacted me to say she wants the books! I suggest that she should be next after Annelis.

Journal Entry 14 by wingAnneliswing from Kerava, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Sunday, August 5, 2007
The book had arrived while I was in Barcelona. Thank you! I will read it as soon as possible.

Journal Entry 15 by wingAnneliswing from Kerava, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Tuesday, December 25, 2007
The religious theme of this book is a little strange for me. Maybe that's why it took so long to read it through. But the book is well written anyway, I must admit.
I posted the book to Nyassa a week ago by air mail. I hope she will get it soon.
