This arrived in today's mail, along with one other bookring book. As soon as I finish my current read, I will start on the other bookring book. However, I may get this started simultaneously as the format of this book is easier to pick up and put down.

Journal Entry 6 by Lpree from Omaha, Nebraska USA on Monday, June 28, 2004
Okay, well I didn't manage to finish this, unfortunately. I enjoyed what I read, but at times it seems to all blend together. Also, I've had a number of bookrings come in the past week and so am distracted with trying to get through the book so as not to hold too many books up.

Anyway, Queen Victoria sounds like quite a character. I enjoyed reading her perspective on life as a Queen and how she dealt with her government.

I've PM'd joanthro for an address and will mail it out sometime this week. Thanks Sullynation for the opportunity to read this, even if I did not finish it.

First, I really have to apologize for keeping this book so long! I just didn't want to *not* read all of it!

I really enjoyed this book. I thought reading the jounals and letters of Queen Victoria added a dimension to her and to the history of the time that I didn't have before. As I read, I was constantly struck by the history she was participating in (and probably creating in certain cases) that she was worried about but didn't live to see the outcome. I'm thinking of the death of her granddaughter, the Tsarevna of Russia, and WWI to name a couple of examples. To watch the elements of later history accumulate in her writings was interesting yet terrible. A great read and a reminder that no leader is as one dimensional as history tends to make them.

I'm enjoying the book thoroughly. I wish that some of the more significant details of the journals and letters were better highlighted amongst the day to day entries.

I'm also waiting for an address from mlbish as I finish the book.

I enjoyed this very much. It gives a good insight into the Queen's private life and the things which concerned her deeply.

Jaysgirl sent her details to me, but Billhookbabe finally replied, so book has been mailed to her.

I have sent a couple of books to Jaysgirl by way of a RABCK to thank her for her trouble.

Journal Entry 20 by billhookbabe on Tuesday, July 19, 2005
Received a few days ago. I have a bit of a ring pile at the moment but hope to get to read this within the next month.
Many thanks quizgirl, the lollies were lovely :o)

Wow, what a difference a book makes. I was really suprised about how Queen Victoria wrote. Her references to others in such a loving way and also her dislike of the work she had to do. She was very clear about her feelings for Albert and her grief when he died. It is not every day that you get to know about the inner feelings of a princess to become queen. I agree that maybe there could have been more information to fill in the spaces and in places whole years are missed.

Off to Jaysgirl as soonas I have the address.

aplogies to everyone in this ring. Not only did I forget to register it when it arrived on my doorstep - many many moons ago, I have also had it for way too long. It is now safely on it's way to the next reader.

Journal Entry 25 by loribee from Birmingham, West Midlands United Kingdom on Friday, June 23, 2006
Greatly enjoyed the book but need yllus to advise me where to send it as jackiea in Sydney seems to be inactive now. Thanks!

Today the 150th anniversary of the Victoria Cross was mentioned so I dipped into the book for references. QV said it should say 'for valour' rather than 'for the brave' as that would imply the others weren't brave. Sensitive & sensible woman. I was amused at her impatience with 'Bertie's' interminable letters from India. She comes across as so human & so concerned about her family.
