Extended Profile
I am a publisher of children's books in the UK. I'm also a private pilot and enjoy travelling to interesting parts of the world in a small plane. Other interests include gardening (spasmodically), travelling with my husband and son, sailing (occasionally).
Reading tastes change as I discover new authors. I naturally read a lot of children's literature. I have been, in the past, a keen reader of fantasy, SF, crime and certain thrillers. Also many "literary" novels but I find myself often too interested in the form and technique to be able to really love the book. Martin Amis is a case in point. I never can get fully engaged with his books as they seem so cold and calculating. However, I admire his technical ability.
Currently I find that I'm more interested in non-fiction. Tom Holland's RUBICON and PERSIAN FIRE held me gripped. As has VULCAN 607 and Bill Bryson's A SHORT HISTORY OF NEARLY EVERYTHING. I'm currently reading Bryson's THE LIFE AND TIMES OF THE THUNDERBOLT KID (hilarious). Richard Dawkins' THE GOD DELUSION is next.
