It's a history lesson and a murder mystery all rolled into one. I really liked it.

Caught on the book swop shelf at Norton Park. Many thanks.

This was great fun to read, and only slightly marred by its OTT climax. (I mean, by rights neither of the main two characters should have been alive by that time!!!) The most impressive thing about the book was its historical detail, and the manner in which real political tensions regarding Cromwell's likely downfall were used to provide background to a very gripping pice of fiction.

High-brow literature it ain't, but if I happen to see any of the other books in this series lying around in the future I'll pick them up straight away.

EDITED: Great book. Read it slowly each night but raced toward the end, it was getting so exciting.

Picked up from the OBCZ at Canongate books. I received a copy of another book in this series as part of the World Book Night 2011 so look forward to reading this one also.
