Just got this in the mail today.
Ordered it off ebay...was put through hell at customs...why? it's just a book!!
But it safely made it to me...

Originally had ordered this for Christmas for one of my daughters, though bought another one at Coles for a few bucks when this one failed to show...so this one is mine to read now, then pass on!!!
(Rather than taking it back from her to read later :-P )

This was an interesting book, and a good read, though I found she could drag on and on about some issues, and not change the subject. Either that or talk about it many different times in the book.

All in all, not a bad book though, and enjoyable.

I received this today from princess1984 in Canada ... as a RABCK. Thank you for your generosity. The corner of this book has been damaged (looks like dog chewing) and repaired with tape.

c. 2006 -- 203 pages -- Hardcover -- and other Philosophies of life -- US Television actors and actresses Biography -- Conduct of life -- 1 week on the USA Today top-10 Bestseller list (#10 on 5/14/06)

Back Cover: Toast. You know when you're trying to make it and you just can't get it right? It's too light or too soft, then ... totally burnt. Are you the kind of person who tries to scrape off the black? Or do you smother it with jam to hide the taste? Do you throw it away, or do you just eat it?

Up 'til now, I ate the burnt toast. I learned that from my mother. She always took care of everyone and everything else before herself. This habitual self-sacrifice was a mixed message for a child. It taught me that women should expect and settle for the worst and that even if I did get the golden buttered slice, it meant someone else had to suffer.

Then I hit 40. Did I really want to spend another 10 years this way? The easy answer: no. The harder realization was that in order to change, I needed to stop eating the burnt toast. I had to be done anticipating failure. I had to be done feeling like I didn't deserve good things, tasty things. And I was. I didn't want to do it anymore, and I don't want other people to do it either.

That's why I wrote this book. It's my wacky, serious, skittish, heartfelt attempt to share my jagged route to happiness with other people like me.

I finished reading this book on 1/30. I wasn't too impressed by this. I felt Teri Hatcher is too full of herself and allows her 7 year old daughter too much emphasis in her life. I remember my MIL saying to me once "and are YOU doing?" when my life was so full of my children's activities. Her point was that you can't lose sight of yourself. Teri also overstates the 'burnt toast' title and even acknowledges that she's doing it. It seemed the publishers wanted her to write a book and she attempted to stretch out a small theme to many pages.
