Emotional Geology

One of a set of books picked up at the excellent Transita day in Oxford organised by Lyzzybee and Molineux. Looking forward to reading it.
A very moving book about a creative person with bi polar and her salvation who has real issues himself. The idea of visual and written art mirroring and interpreting each other was interesting. I liked the inclusion of poetry and different ways of splitting up the words on the page depending on how Rose is feeling

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
RELEASE NOTES:
Taking to the July 2008 Birmingham meet
I am not generally a Transita reader (more sci-fi and thriller) - but this does sound particularly interesting and has been recommended to me by a number of people so I would like to try it.
I have picked this up a couple of times but don't seem to be getting into it so have decided it needs to go on its way. Sent to candy-is-dandy.
Thanks juliako - received safe & sound. Sorry for the delay in journalling, got caught up with Christmas deliveries - I can't keep up with all the incoming Christmas post!!
Merry Christmas.
Having heard lots of good things about this book and seen/heard Linda Gillard speak at the Unconvention in Brighton reading this book was a must. I don't usually enjoy romantic novels but this seemed like romance for grown-ups - certainly not the chick-lit that I usually avoid. I found the writing very pleasing though the descriptions of the quilting etc were a bit beyond me as its not something I'm into. Rose's state of mind was well described. I thought she was more sociable than I expected her to be. Thanks for a pleasant read. I have A Lifetime Burning as a ring so looking forward to reading that too.
This is now off as an Exchange book to another UK bookcrosser.
Received via UK Exchange. Thanks a lot.
Beautiful. I was up till 2am finishing this book and I'm not usually a night owl. Can't wait to read more of Linda's stuff.
I'm going to pm a few people with this book on their wishlists and see if I can get it off on a bookring. It's too good for wild releasing.
Well the list for the bookring is taking shape and this is the order so far though I'll be happy to add any newcomers and I hope to get the book on its way when the PO reopens on Tuesday after the bank holiday.

You probably all know how this works but just in case .. Please make a journal entry when you receive the book so that the sender knows it has arrived safely. I know life gets in the way sometimes but please do your best to read the book within one month of receipt, make a journal entry with your comments and mail to the next person on the list.
Good luck little book. I hope you enjoy your travels and that your readers enjoy you just as much as I did.
Arrived safely on my doorstep this morning and I'm looking forward to reading it - I've heard so many good reviews that I had to have a read myself. Thanks for sharing and I'll get it moving again as soon as possible.
Oh the joys of BookCrossing! This is definitely a book that I would never have found or read if it hadn't been for BookCrossing - and I loved it! It was a joy to read and I just couldn't put it down. I became so engrossed in the lives of Rose and Calum that I had to read to the end, even though I didn't want it to finish so soon. I loved the descriptions of Rose's quilts and could really visualise them, and thoroughly enjoyed the way that the Uist landscape, people and way of life were depicted.
I found the portrayal of Rose's bi polar illness very realistic. Unfortunately a couple of my close family have suffered from the same illness and Gillard has gone some way to capturing the long term effects of this terrible mental health issue on both the patient and their families. We tend to think of bi polar as a problem that affects one person but its impact on a family is terrible and lasts a very long time, changing many aspects of everyone's lives. This can be seen in how Megan had to cope with Rose's episodes during her childhood and how this ultimately led to the breakdown of their relationship.
This book will be on its way to Australia and MeganH as soon as I receive her details. Many thanks for sharing this with me and I'm sure that this book will be in my top 5 books for 2008.

RELEASE NOTES:
Sent Airmail to MeganH in Australia. Enjoy :o)
The bookring arrived safely in yesterday's mail -fastest postal service I have experienced. I look forward to reading this highly rated book
I was immediately interested in this book when the first sentence I read was a letter addressed "Dear Megan" - my name (which is not common in Australia)! I thought the author visualised the stark winter landscape of Uist very well. I was disturbed by the relationship between mother and daughter but it made more sense when we learned of how Megan had to care for her Mum during some of her bipolar episodes. The developing relationship between Rose and Calum was depicted with sensitivity. Overall, an interesting book. Off to CynthiaA when I get her address.
Received today. Thanks to Tanamo for offering it as a ring and to Megan for sending it to me all the way from Australia!
This was a very good book. It takes real skill to write a book about depression that isn't depressing. The book was hopeful and yet never shied away from the darkness that the characters experienced. Very well done. Thanks Tanamo for the opportunity to read it. It can't be bought in Canada, apparently. It was mailed this a.m. to Belgium for whitehorsy.
The book arrived today, thanks for sending it all the way from Canada CynthiaA! :-) I'm looking forward to reading this one and I'll start as soon as I finished my current read.
I finished this book a bit later than expected, as I forgot the book at my mum's place and had to wait a week before I could pick it up again. But I read the last page today and the book is ready to travel to Chania next Thursday. :-)
Thanks for sharing Tanamo! This was a pleasant read. I enjoyed reading Rose's story and the way she progressed. I also loved the description of the island and I would love to see Uist and the Isle of Skye for real! :-)

Sent to Chania in Finland (Bookring). :-)
Thank you, the book arrived today - with a lovely HGG gift :)
I will read this as soon as I've finished another book.
Wonderful story! This book had so many things that interest me a lot: the bi-polar disorder (because I work with people who suffer that), the Scottish Isles - it has been always my dream to travel there! and the quilting/sewing which I like very much.
It was such a pleasure to read this book, I really sank into it and felt quite sorry when it ended. I've read one book my Linda Gillard before but I like this better. This is defenitively a book that I'd love to read again one day!
Sending this to Bulgaria next Monday.
Received today. I have already another bookring and a baby at hand,so please be patient with me! Thanks in advance!
To me the book made an impression more as a romance novel than as a story about coping with bi-polar. I`m not sure that a person who is not familiar with this kind of disorder, will quite understand its nature and complexity while reading the story.I wished for more depth but at the same time was glad the writer had managed to write so lightly about this difficult subject. It was interesting to follow how Rose couldn`t accept help from others and how she denied happiness to herself. I wished more elaboration on daughter-mother relationship. The love story was nice, and also the idea of combining poetry and visual art was very creative.Perhaps a little more was needed on the process of creating in the context of bi-polar.
Oceanripples has ceased to be active in Bookcrossing (the message on her profile says this),so I may PM directly the last person in the list.
No reply so far from Catflap,I`m sending a second message.

Sent to Catflap.
Thank you for sharing this book.
It looks like I forgot to log it safe but it is here and ready to move to the next person.
This book helped me to start reading again after so long of not reading for a book addict it was queit depressing to be in such a drought.
the book is good fairly predictable in places although that is not a real problem. a nice story.
I have just recieved a message that there is another reader on the ring for this so off to pm them (5/6/09)
Many thanks for adding me to the list. Received today, will start reading straight away (well, on my way home from work maybe ...)
I found this a bit hard to get into, but once I did it was a lovely read. I thought a nice balance in portraying the devastating effects of bi-polar without swamping the reader; I guess the fragmentation, intermixing of past and present, and the use of poetry and poetic layouts all helped in this. Not in my usual line, and I don't normally do too well with poetry, but I'm interested in mental health and this one did speak to me. Thank you all for your reviews - without these, I'd never have even thought of reading it. :O)
Back to Tanamo I guess - will pm for her address, then send it on.
