Picked this up at a library book sale for $1. I've heard a lot about Carl Hiaasen here on Bookcrossing so I'm eager to read this one. From Amazon:
"Hiaasen's signature mix of hilariously over-the-top villains, lovable innocents and righteous indignation at what mankind has done to his beloved Florida wilderness is all present in riotous abundance in his latest. It begins with attractive heiress Joey Perrone being tossed overboard from a cruise ship by her larcenous husband, Chaz—not for her money, which she has had the good sense to keep well away from him, but because he fears she is onto his crooked dealings with a ruthless tycoon who is poisoning the Everglades. But instead of drowning as she's supposed to, Joey stays afloat until she is rescued by moody ex-cop Mick Stranahan, a loner who has also struck out in the marriage department. Then the two together, with the unwitting aid of a suspicious cop who can't pin the attempted murder on Chaz, hatch a sadistic plot to scare that "maggot" out of what little wit he has. Even Tool, a hulking brute sent by the tycoon to keep an eye on Chaz, eventually turns against him, and much of the fun is in watching the deplorable Chaz flounder further and further in the murk, both literally and figuratively (Chaz's job, as the world's unlikeliest marine biologist, involves falsifying water pollution levels for the tycoon). Hiaasen's books are so enjoyable it's always a sad moment when they end. In this case, however, sadness is mixed with puzzlement because the book seems to end in mid-scene, with Chaz in trouble again—but is it terminal? We thought at first there were some pages missing, but Knopf says that was the ending Hiaasen intended. Odd."

I really had fun with this book. It has one of those mixed-up, unpredictable, and often humorous plots that I enjoy. I know Hiaasen has been writing novels a lot longer than Dave Barry, but I read Barry's novels first. I find Hiassen's work to be similar but not as hilarious. But I think he does a better job with characters' feelings and has a little more romance. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Now I am finally sending this off on its bookray. Off to tenneh today (I hope). Enjoy!

I forgot I had this coming as a bookring and traded for another copy of it. So I'm sending this one along to the next person. It looks like it will be a fun book.

Received today. Thank you! I have one book I am in the middle of right now,, but this one will be next!
Quite a fun and funny book! I thoroughly enjoyed picking this book up each night to read about the chaos!
Chaz was such a jerk -- not too realistic, but boy you sure are glad when things get worse and worse for him. Highly entertaining!! Will PM the next person.

Added April 21, 2007: Started reading this book today ... seems like it might be interesting. Seriously, I can go either way with Hiaasen books: Sometimes I find them very entertaining, but other times (like with Lucky You) I just find them annoying. Almost as if he's trying too hard to be clever. So far, so good with this one, though ... should be done and on its way soon!

Added April 25, 2007: Finding it QUITE entertaining! Almost finished and received Buffra's address. Will be mailed as soon as I'm finished!

April 26, 2007: Finished! Enjoyed it immensely ... unfortunately, it lasted JUST ABOUT fifty or so pages too long. It was all neatly wrapped and tied well before the actual end of the book ... still an enjoyable read, though. Typically tongue-in-cheek Hiaasen! Will be in the mail tomorrow morning!

Sent on to Buffra via media mail .... Happy Traveling!
THANK YOU for checking on whether or not I'd received it. It actually arrived while I was out of town and my cat-feeder had it (and some other mail) at their home and forgot to pass it along to me. I wouldn't have asked without your reminder, DoveiLibri, and my bill collectors would have been unhappy.
:D
So, it's safe in my possession and I've already started it. It should be moving along quickly.
Thank you!

Oh, there's nothing I can even say. "I'm sorry" is quite inadequate for having the book so very long.
Nevertheless, I am happy to report that it is on it's way to boomda (tbeckross had disabled PMs). I hope it arrives safely.

The book has arrived today and I will put it at the top of Mt TBR. Should read and journal more really soon!
This was a fun book with a good story. The author does a good job creating a great mix of characters, He is also informative about the state of the everglades, which I was never aware of.
Off to needeler!

I received This book through a bookray.
A husband tries to murder his wife and thinks that he did but she gets even. Some parts had me laughing.
