Ella, an American, goes to France to find her ancestors. The stories of both Ella and her ancestor are interesting and it's generally well written. Ella however, makes me cringe (mind you I think she's meant to!) and the story sometimes seems contrived. Nevertheless it is very readable and the story is compelling.
Thanks you Random-Poet "reserved" for me. OOOH a treat in store. First some rings & rays but then.... this!
As these parallel tales raced toward their conclusions I was anxious to know were the outcomes going to be as devastating as I feared... It was good to have a well written novel to fix my mind on every now and then as I sat last night with my Dad who lay dying. Thanks so much random-poet, we never could have realised when we exchanged books last October that this book would be such a life saver.

Well written and researched tales. Thought I would find it more 'meaty' than I did but still a good read taking you along with the stories at a faster pace as it goes through the book.

The 2 stories that crossed paths were very nice! I like how Tracy Chevalier writes her stories.
This one is set in France - I enjoyed having a view on this culture!
The society of our times changed so much; I have the impression that life in older times was much more cruel then today...
A happy ending story - perfect for mu summer holiday!
Thank you Flutterbies for sharing!
