To the outside world, Eleanor Oliphant seems like a cranky and persnickety 30 year old woman whose life is simply one routine after another, but in reality she has spent years keeping people out so that she will never need anyone. Sure, she drinks an entire bottle of wine by herself with her Friday dinners and then drinks two bottles of vodka over the weekend, but she's fine! At the beginning of the book, we see how isolated Eleanor is. As unexpected events occur, she begins to let a few people into her life with unexpected results.
