Extended Profile
I am a retired college teacher of English, a writer and a reader. I habitually read poetry, literary essays, memoirs, biography, history, plays and some fiction. I buy books, new and used, and always try to pass on to others books I think I shall not reread.
(If I want to share a book and can't bear to part with it, I buy a second copy for a friend). BookCrossing will give me a new way of dispersing books I no longer want to keep (I keep adding new book shelves, but space in an apartment is finite!). I love the
idea of books being set free in the world to find other readers. I have on occasion burned books which I thought should not exist and I once left on a street-car a book that upset me so much I didn't want to take it home. One of my favourite books is Ray Bradbury's
Fahreinheit 451, which ends by people turning into books.
