I really loved this book.
Before I praise it though, I admit a little disappointment in finding that the author basically borrowed the Harry Potter Formula to create this new series. It is definitely darker, much the same otherwise. I like that Spirit White is not as awkward and fumbling as Harry is though. Strong female protagonists appeal to me.
When Spirit becomes a "ward of the school" it is a slow awakeneing to the world as it really is around her. She realizes that her life will never be the same again and must accept her place in a frightning legacy of darkness, magic and mayhem that haunts the nightmares of even the bravest souls.
Together with her new friends, Spirit discovers not only her place in a frightening world but the power within herself to do something about it.
I love all aspects of this book and hope to read the next in the series. Since this is a new release I am definitely excited about shairng it with my students. Woohoo!

AbLs took this to read after I described it to students in my classroom. She read the first few pages and said she thought it was exciting. I hope she enjoys it and can write a brief review about it when she is done.
I really liked this book, it was a perfect combination of magic and mysteries. It's one of the best books I have read in a while. I loved how there was always something happening to the main characters, it never left you bored with the book. Always interesting.
AbLs brought the book back and seemed to really enjoy it! I am glad. She passed it along to TyPc. I certainly hope she enjoys it too.
Passed along to another student to read. Looking forward to hearing her thoughts about the book. She is extremely smart, and will definitely have some good insight for her peers. I hope she writes a review after she reads this too.
