Happy to find this book (HB - Oprah pick) in the thrift shop!
Looking forward to reading this researched novel of the author's roots on a Creole plantation in Louisiana - stories of 4 generations of African-American women.

Released on a long-term loan to BC friend booklover at our Pleasanton meet-up.
Enjoy!

I am halfway through this book. Hope to have it finished in time to release at our next meetup in Pleasanton.

I can't imagine how horrible it would be to live as a slave, and be subjected to the whims of a plantation overseer/owner. Being sold away from any family connections, is heartbreaking.

This is a very thought provoking book. Well researched and written. A tribute to the human spirits ability to persevere through the obstacles presented in society.
A lesson taught in choosing one's battles wisely.

This was a very enjoyable read. The character developement and the actual historic background really kept everything together very nicely. I had a hard time at first with the switching viewpoints. I liked the older generations much better than the younger generations.

Thanks so much to both of the wonderful ladies who made it possible for me to read this book! :)

Released on Saturday, November 06, 2004 at about 2:00:00 PM BX time (GMT-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada) at through the mail in Byron, Minnesota Controlled Releases.

I loved this book. It is like the matriarchal Roots--different family, different in that the white people were French, different in that it follows the women through the generations. Really, really good. I am hanging onto it just a little longer because my husband thinks he might want to read it.
