Thanks JDT for letting me read this book first. I will take good care of it and return it to you with a journal entry when I am done.
Released on a long-term loan to BC friend booklover at our Pleasanton meet-up.
Enjoy!

I am halfway through this book. Hope to have it finished in time to release at our next meetup in Pleasanton.
I can't imagine how horrible it would be to live as a slave, and be subjected to the whims of a plantation overseer/owner. Being sold away from any family connections, is heartbreaking.

This is a very thought provoking book. Well researched and written. A tribute to the human spirits ability to persevere through the obstacles presented in society.
A lesson taught in choosing one's battles wisely.

This just arrived (thanks so much to the generosity of Zmrzlina for accepting it on relay and JDT for sending it). On to Mount TBR
This was a very enjoyable read. The character developement and the actual historic background really kept everything together very nicely. I had a hard time at first with the switching viewpoints. I liked the older generations much better than the younger generations.
Thanks so much to both of the wonderful ladies who made it possible for me to read this book! :)

Received this today in fulfilment of one of my wishes! Thank you so much! Looks even better than I thought it did!
I loved this book. It is like the matriarchal Roots--different family, different in that the white people were French, different in that it follows the women through the generations. Really, really good. I am hanging onto it just a little longer because my husband thinks he might want to read it.
