Anansi Boys

I really liked American Gods, and many of Neil Gaiman's other books. So when I heard he was coming to town to read from the sequel, I got really excited. Strangely, I found myself pretty bored at the reading--I didn't even stay for the whole thing. But I did buy this book and get it signed.
At first I thought the humor in the book was too over the top, that it got in the way of the narrative mood of the story. But Gaiman succeeded in drawing even this reluctant reader in, and eventually I was laughing out loud, completely wrapped up in the story.
Sending as a birthday surprise RABCK to another bookcrosser.

OOOH, this was so good that I ran to the library and checked out American Gods (I couldn't wait to try and get it through a bookcrosser!) ... Anansi Boys read just like a movie; I could visualize the story like I was watching a film (which is an excellent quality IMO)... The story started out feeling rather cliche and with predictable characters (i.e. the mother-in-law-to-be) ... but eventually the story branched out into some great visualization and lured me further and further in.
I'll pass this on to another bookcrosser soon =)
