This collection of short stories is weird and wonderful and I loved it. The only reason I am not giving it a "10" is that the conversational writing style — full of run-on sentences and multiple parentheticals — wears a bit thin after a while. These unique stories are snapshots of neurotic but hopeful women who are dealing with loss, indulging in elaborate fantasies, or experiencing crises of identity. At turns both hilarious and heartbreaking, even the most bizarre storylines — from the woman who decides to live on the rooftop of her friend's apartment building to the daughter who is convinced that her dead mother is just stuck at a North Dakota bus depot — offer witty insights on the subjects of grief, identity, and love.
