I guess you could call this a throwback to the hardboiled stories printed in cheap paperbacks that my dad liked to read when he worked at the cement plant. All the elements are there, lower east side tenements, prostitutes, mobsters and washed up boxers. This book was recommended to me by Red Buttons.

Hardboiled and pulpy.
A sample:
"Danny, you don't looked pleased?" she asked, a hurt deep in her dark eyes.
"I'm pleased all right," I said shortly.
She drew closer to me. "Then what's the matter?"
"I was wonderin' what we're gonna use for dough?"
Well if you're Harold Robbins you typed up more of this stuff.
