Two men talk at an Oxford College about two artworks, which have a history of finding their way back together. One is a picture of a beautiful young woman with an ambiguous expression, sometimes looking disdainful and sometimes yearning. The other is a bronze monkey, with an expression of greed and savagery. No one knows what the connection between the two pieces is, but they don't bring luck to their owners. A very short story but it's nice to have a little look back into the world of His Dark Materials.
