Before reading this novel I read a WW1 novel about nurses in France. This novel gave me further insight into this horrific situation. So much information I did not know. Although this novel dragged on a bit, I enjoyed it. How humans endure such situations is unbelievable, would we in the cosseted 21st century? The ending was very satisfactory, although sad. I recommend you persevere when the reading gets tough!
