Beartown is a blue collar town and all who live there are deeply involved in the local ice hockey team. When the team is almost going to be disbanded and some of the players defect to the neighboring town of Hed, emotions begin to run high and violence erupts. By the end of the story the residents have learned lessons on compassion, forgiveness and acceptance.
I have not read Beartown yet, but this is a worthwhile stand alone book. It did have a slow start, but picked up about 1/3 of the way through. The characters are well developed.

I've read the first book in this series, and while it's my least favorite Backman story I have read so far, I still kind of want to know what happens next. So I might give this a try. I see the third book is coming out in October. Thanks for mailing!

Thank you so much! I love Backman! I didn't want to start Beartown until I had this book. LOL! I bought Beartown in August of 2020. I bought The Winners last year. Now I can start the series.
