Can't wait to send this out to other people!

Journal Entry 2 by Hero from Dublin, Co. Dublin Ireland on Thursday, April 15, 2004
Well, I had to wait after all. Minor details like postal disputes...

Here's the order for the ray:
grooble (Australia)
newk (Australia)
mytilusgirl (UK)
zartbitter (Germany)
nyassa (UK)
Tuz (Brazil)
tchouli (USA)
Auglaise (Wales)
Olifant (Netherlands)
DianeO (UK)
Amaranta20 (USA)
aset01 (France)
punkrockbiene (Germany)
Erna (Netherlands)
Elmindreda (Hungary)
***********************

Usual proceedure for rays - when you get the book, please make a journal entry, and again when you're sending it on. A month seems to be generally accepted as being a reasonable reading time - but things do happen! If you know that you'll be much longer, please let other people know, so nobody thinks the book has disappeared into a black hole. Or PM me for a rearrangement to the mailing order. But most of all, have fun with it!

*****************

This is a ray - hopefully it'll keep going indefinitely. PM me to be added, saying where you are and mailing preferences. This one is really travelling the globe, so if you can't mail internationally I won't be able to guarantee a spot, but will try. (Book weighs just under 250 g - about 1/2 pound - with small mailing envelope)

Journal Entry 3 by grooble from Adelaide, South Australia Australia on Wednesday, May 12, 2004
I can't wait to read it! I'm a huge fan of the author. Thanks, Hero! a great end to a hurrying, worrying day!

going straight to the top of Mt TBR!

Journal Entry 4 by grooble from Adelaide, South Australia Australia on Monday, June 21, 2004
I wish I was a Magid, great read by a great author, now off to newk!

Journal Entry 5 by newk from Adelaide, South Australia Australia on Tuesday, June 29, 2004
I have it. Dropped off by Grooble to one of my work places with thanks. I shall get to it soon. And of course let you all know

Journal Entry 6 by newk from Adelaide, South Australia Australia on Thursday, July 8, 2004
my initial impression of this book is very favourable. WHY HAS NO-ONE TOLD ME ABOUT THIS AUTHOR BEFORE?

Journal Entry 7 by newk from Adelaide, South Australia Australia on Wednesday, July 14, 2004
I enjoyed this book. But I did think it was a bit long and tended towards self indulgence at the end. A great many characters seemed to come and go without really being fleshed out or having their motives and thoughts properly explained.
However it was great fun and I will eventually read more by this author.

Having been to many of the places described made it amusing (and NO I was not seeking out nodes). I also particularly liked the cameo appearances of the hotel front desk worker from another European country. I have had interactions just like those described.

Thanks to hero for sharing and to the groober for passing along.
The next in line is on a long break so I might make an executive decision and PM the book crosser two down who can then pass it back.

Journal Entry 8 by Mytilus from Plymouth, Devon United Kingdom on Wednesday, July 28, 2004
Arrived today.

I'm just finishing a ring, so I reckon I get stuck into this tomorrow.

Thanks Hero, and thanks newk; love the postcard!

Journal Entry 9 by Mytilus from Plymouth, Devon United Kingdom on Monday, August 2, 2004
I thought this was great, and am kicking myself for not having discovered this wonderful author before.

Thank you Hero for making this a ray!

Journal Entry 10 by Zartbitter from Mohrkirch, Schleswig-Holstein Germany on Tuesday, August 17, 2004
Found it stuck in my small postbox. I will start to read it in about two days after I've finished another ring. Thanks mytilusgirl.

Journal Entry 11 by Zartbitter from Mohrkirch, Schleswig-Holstein Germany on Thursday, August 26, 2004
I really liked this book. After a slow start it got very funny and I was eager to read more and more.

Journal Entry 12 by nyassa from Deal, Kent United Kingdom on Tuesday, August 31, 2004
Arrived today, many thanks. I look forward to starting it which should be within the week.

Journal Entry 13 by nyassa from Deal, Kent United Kingdom on Monday, September 13, 2004
Superb, I loved it, one of those books you wish would not end. The only slight quibble I would have is that the references to computers and to current affairs (eg Northern Ireland) already make it seem slightly dated. Nevertheless I have become a devoted DWJ reader and will be looking out for more.

Thanks to Hero for organising this ray, and indeed to PDB11 for first introducing me to DWJ.

I have the address for Tuz and will posting the book either today or tomorrow.

Journal Entry 14 by Tuz from Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais Brazil on Sunday, September 26, 2004
Thanks, the book arrived safe and sound :)

Journal Entry 17 by Auglaise from -- Somewhere in London 🤷‍♀️ , Greater London United Kingdom on Tuesday, February 8, 2005
Received today by postie coming at *exactally* the wrong time (Nothing like stepping out of the shower and hearing the bell ring!) ^_^ Thank you very much!

Journal Entry 18 by Auglaise from -- Somewhere in London 🤷‍♀️ , Greater London United Kingdom on Friday, February 18, 2005
I enjoyed this one much more than the previous Diana Wynne Jones book I've read, I think perhaps because the lead characters seemed to be more real. If this is what the rest of her books are like, then I'll definately be looking into reading more of them! Thank you for sharing! ^_^

Journal Entry 19 by Auglaise from -- Somewhere in London 🤷‍♀️ , Greater London United Kingdom on Friday, February 25, 2005
Sent off today!

Journal Entry 20 by Olifant from Porthmadog, Wales United Kingdom on Saturday, March 12, 2005
Book has safely arrived in Utrecht today. I'm not sure if I can keep it closed untill I've finished my other bookringbook.

Journal Entry 21 by Olifant from Porthmadog, Wales United Kingdom on Monday, March 14, 2005
Nope, the magic was too strong, I opened the gate, sorry, book and couldn't stop reading.

An entertaining and funny story and better to get than Fire and Hemlock, the only other book I read by the same author. Maree's driving style is erm... recognizable, uphill in gear four and wondering why the car goes so slowly. Snorted when the Croatian thought Uncle Ted had written that famous book about King Arthur. I like the comparison of Hotel Babylon with Escher. I enjoyed the personages and especially their flaws. And the end, Nick's file, suggests a sequel.

Waiting for DianeO's address. Thanks for sharing Hero!

edit: other work Conrad's Fate

Journal Entry 22 by Olifant from Porthmadog, Wales United Kingdom on Monday, April 11, 2005
Finally I have received an address. Not DianeO's, nor aset01's, but punkrockbiene's! So off the book goes to Germany...

Journal Entry 23 by punkrockbiene from Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg Germany on Wednesday, April 20, 2005
...and here it is, yay! :-) Probably arrived on the weekend, but since I was away for a few days, I found it on my doorstep when I got back.
Am already into the second chapter- it really keeps drawing you back in, doesn't it??
Thanks Olifant for the postcard!

Journal Entry 24 by punkrockbiene from Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg Germany on Friday, May 6, 2005
After I had A LOT of fun with this book, it ended at some point, unfortunately. Don't you just hate it when that happens..? ;-)
I'm not sure I caught the second Neil Gaiman cameo appearance, by the way- there are supposed to be two, right? Hmmm...
Anyway, I have aset01's address, so the book will start its journey to France this afternoon.

Journal Entry 25 by Hero from Dublin, Co. Dublin Ireland on Friday, May 6, 2005
I should so be doing allusions to literature of the past (for an essay) instead of allusions to Neil Gaiman in Deep Secret, but never mind! He is both the guy in black Maree says is fanciable (probably the one you spotted) and Nick as morning-time zombie at the con. Or so I've been told, never having been lucky enough to see Neil Gaiman at breakfast in 'real life'! ;)

Journal Entry 26 by punkrockbiene from Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg Germany on Friday, May 6, 2005
Ahh, I see. Yes, I figured the "black leather" and "fanciable" meant Gaiman. ;-) I can relate to the zombie in the morning mood, too- I'm not as bad as Nick/Neil, but I take about an hour to really start functioning, and I shouldn't be around sharp objects in the morning (like a fork, for example..)Thanks for the hint!

Journal Entry 27 by aset01 from Carpentras, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur France on Tuesday, May 10, 2005
just arrived today thanks. I never read any book from this author so it will be a primer :-)
