Together they got up from the bench and stood watching while Georgiana and Alveston, their happy laughter rising above the constant music of the stream, their hands still linked, came running to them across the shining grass.

Last line from Death Comes to Pemberley by P.D. James. Saw the trailer for the BBC’s adaptation of Death Comes to Pemberley and decided to read it before watching the dramatization (via some catch up method.) I’ve read one other P.D. James novel, Children of Men and didn’t particularly enjoy it but as I’ve said before, every author deserves a second chance. So, I picked up a copy at the library I work at and got stuck in.

I’m glad I read Death Comes to Pemberley because it was definitely more enjoyable than Children of Men. I liked the concept of a whodunit thrown into the world of Pride and Prejudice; it makes a change from the usual Jane Austen chick lit spin offs. Found that the story dragged longer that it needed to; the middle could have been cut as the mystery is only unravelled at the end, without many clues between.
