A sort of dark, forboding book, like the Intuitionist by Colson Whitehead, yet riveting. The small world that is Manhattan brings almost strangers together in the search for love and companionship. The Gothic apartment building, The Preemption, complete with it's manually operated Otis elevator, becomes the biggest overlap to the characters and their stories.
Not the fun, quirky New York we see in movies, this NY has a hint of the underbelly, showing the darker side of longing. It's a more realistic vision of New York and all the single, searching people.
