I was born and raised in California, but became a military wife (read: nomad) at 18, moving from Army installation to Army installation until a few years ago. I have lived in several US states as well as Germany. I've now settled in a small town in Kentucky - this time, without the military husband!
My four sons are all grown and have children of their own. I am grandmother to eight wonderful grandkids: two live in Holland, two in Germany, another two Kentucky, and two more in Virginia. My youngest granddaughter arrived on January 7, 2010 in Germany, and now we've welcomed the latest grandson into the fold on May 18th in Virginia! Never a dull moment with my brood!!
As the saying goes, I've been there, done stuff, and collected many t-shirts. I was a school bus driver, office manager, sold Villeroy & Boch china (very successfully, by the way), and worked in the local PX (military store),owned and ran a small deli sandwich shop AND I had my own import/export candy company back in Germany, to name but a few.
I was working as a bailiff at our county court, but went back to school to learn Medical Billing & Insurance Coding. I finished my courses in April 2009 with an "A" average; my GPA was 3.71 and graduated with honors! Pretty good for an old girl, I thought!
The only problem after that was finding a job, which wasn't possible, so I'm still a bailiff at the courthouse. I wouldn't have missed the challenge of learning something new for a world, however. Maybe someday ...
I also set up and ran our town's OBCZ a while back, which was a lot of fun, but ultimately failed due to lack of participation. Met some really nice people doing it, so it wasn't a total loss, I guess.
My favorite literature genre is "The Mystery", so don't be surprised when you look at my shelf! I also read light fiction, the occasional chick lit that Germanophile forces me to read, and I different types of cookbooks, too!
I now own a Kindle, which gives new meaning to the term "portable books."
Thanks for checking out my bookshelf. Please come again!
