Room
4 journalers for this copy...
It's where he was born, it's where he and his Ma eat and sleep and play and learn. There are endless wonders that let loose Jack's imagination-the snake under Bed that he constructs out of eggshells, the imaginary world projected through the TV, the coziness of Wardrobe beneath Ma's clothes, where she tucks him in safely at night, in case Old Nick comes.
Room is home to Jack, but to Ma, it's the prison where she's been held since she was nineteen-for seven long years. Through her fierce love for her son, she has created a life for him in that eleven-by-eleven-foot space. But Jack's curiosity is building alongside her own desperation—and she knows that Room cannot contain either indefinitely....
It takes a bit to get used to Jack's voice as he expresses himself differently than an adult.
The most interesting bit actually was the second half when they aren't in Room anymore, but it keeps shaping their perception.
Jack is overwhelmed as is his mom who has a hard time being the ma he's always known, but finding her old self again or build her new self.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
If you aren't familiar with Bookcrossing, take a few minutes to check out this very cool site. Bookcrossers LOVE books, and more than anything, they love to read books and then set them free for other people to find and enjoy. We would love it, if you would leave a journal entry -- you can say where you found the book or how you liked it when you read it.
Thank you, hon-no-tomo, for this wishlist book, the BC bookmark and the lovely Ireland postcard - it is beautiful! :)
I have just recently had to ask to be skipped in a "Room" bookray, so receiving it like this is fantastic! Thank you! It might take me a while to get to it, as I'm rather busy with work and I've got a ray or two on their way to me, but it will get read and then passed on to another BC-er. I won't wild release it her in Croatia (unless you want me to), because BC isn't active here so the book would probably end up on somebody's shelf (at best) and you'd never hear from it again. And that's no fun! ;)
I was scared that I wouldn't like the book, expecting it to take a slightly sensationalist approach on the heels of real life cases like Natascha Kampusch. I was glad to find it didn't.
POSSIBLE SPOILERS BELLOW:
Written in the voice of a five-year-old who, thanks to his mother, does not fully comprehend the gravity of the situation, and to whom - for the same reason - the Room is home, and not a prison. We get a glimpse of their day to day life, before little Jack escapes and saves his mother (by far the most compelling read in a while - this chapter pulled me in completely), and we then witness Ma's return into the world, and Jack's first experience of the Outside.
I found the book compelling, and a worthwhile read as it helps one see this grave situation from the other side, allowing us to consider the emotional cost of it all, on both Ma and Jack.
I am reserving this for at least two of my friends who I know will enjoy it.

I already have books travelling in many countries around the world-a list can be found on my bookcrossing profile.
When re-releasing this book please be aware that airports are not a good place to leave books unless they have a specific book exchange shelf or area, due to security problems, so they may well just be disposed of. Also charity shops may well discard books that have been labelled in any way and they mostly chose only the books in the very best condition
to place on their shelves and discard the rest-so another bad release option.
