Dead Until Dark (Southern Vampire Mysteries, No. 1)

I had this series recommended to me by a few people, and while I did like the rather laid-back first-person narration (as opposed to the somewhat more urgent feeling that first-person narration tends to have) I couldn't get through it, I felt it was a badly disguised bodice-ripper. While I loved that kind of book when I was younger, I couldn't handle it now.
My roommate however, braved the whole thing, and said: "Yeah, it was rather silly, but it wrapped up nicely enough that I don't have an urge to read the others."

I've got this book in an official Ballycumber bag and I'll leave it in one of the carts outside, or the phone booth, if there aren't any carts. I know they worry when things are left inside.
