It's a new month... time for some new bug fixes!
While Matt is still working on harnessing the book data that we all have contributed to, and making it available for searches, he's also been rather busy fixing other things, and even adding some nifty little features. Sent to the first person of the bookring. Hope you enjoy it!
Just watched the film and I quite enjoyed it. It was certainly better than the book, the gangster slang having been toned down, but I'm not sure I'm any less confused with the story.

On it's way to Danielle23 now - not a RABCK a bookring!
I found this very well written and all of the characters rounded and well though out. I now find myself really wanting to watch the film so will keep my eyes open for it on TV. Thanks for sharing such a great book Lucy and sorry for having it so long over the holiday period. I'll get it posted along as soon as I can xx

I have read most of the book but have lost my way with it now. Struggling to finish and finding it hard going. I have contacted the next person on the list and will pass it on once the address has been recieved.
Read as far as i could but struggled to finish without taking too much time. Passing on to the next reader. Thank you for the chance to read this book. Will watch the film now and hopefully that will make more sense.
Got a couple of books before this Lucy - but shouldn't take too long to get to it!
Looking forward to reading this one a lot!!
Overall a great book, thoroughly recommended.
Thanks again Lucy for another great bookray. I will be sending on to kingfan30 within the next couple of days. :)

On its way now to the next reader. Enjoy! :)
25 April 10 - I have mixed feelings about this book. It was slow to get going. The background of the Lee and Bucky was a bit too detailed for my liking, when I reed a crime novel I like to get straight in within the first few chapters, not 86 pages in. There were parts of this book that were fast passed and I did not want to put it down, but there were also parts that were dragging and an effort to pick the book up. There were lot of twists and turns that kept me guessing till the end, just when I thought I had worked it out, something else would crop up to through it all out. Would be quite interested to see the film so see what that is like.
I will pop this in the post on Monday.
On its way to mafarrimond

Like some of the readers above me already have said. The book starts out a bit slow, but in the end you get really hooked and just want to know how it will end and how everything will come together.
Dutch-book already has a copy of the book so I asked Gwenindil for the address.
Update 9/26:
Gwenindil asked to be skipped. Since I can't find the user Mrainita I sent a PM to Simson-Shilitoe for their address.

At the moment I am reading "Measuring the World" another bookring started by "lucy-lemon". I hope to start with "The Black Dahlia" at the end of next week.
Thank you "EmgeeNL" for posting. Thank you "lucy-lemon" for sharing.
It was a very good read with a slow start (chapter 1 - 6) because of the difficult language and unknown/strange words, which I did not find in the dictionary. And I am with “kingfan30” that the background of Lee Blanchard and Bucky Bleichert was a bit too detailed and long.
The rest of the story was well written and the plot/characters developed in different unexpected parts and twists. It was interesting to see how everything/the investigation comes together in the end, which made me thinking of similar parts of Peter Falk`s famous “Lt. Columbo”.
Thanks again for sharing this great book.
Will now be followed by "August is a wicked month". I am going to start with this book tomorrow.
Posting to Miss-Owl (Thailand) as soon as I get an address.

I'll get to it after my current reading and keep it travelling.
I didn’t feel the story started slow it’s just the author’s way of getting the reader to get real close to the main character and the way he feels about things that surround him.
The plot is very tight and with so many twists and turns that the reader gets a bit dizzy but not lost, the characters are really strong and well built and the pace of the story is frantic. I loved the language and felt transported to that seedy L.A. of the late forties where no one is innocent and most were quite far from it. The dialogues and the expressions used by most characters really give the story an added reality feel.
The Black Dahlia changes everyone’s lives even without most characters knowing her, the way her death becomes an obsession for Bucky and Lee leads to an unstoppable downward spiral which is as obvious as unpredictable to the reader and that adds excitement to the read.
I truly enjoyed this book and recommend the whole L.A. Quartet series by this author, the last of the series, White Jazz, is a harder book to get into but just perfect.
The afterword was also very interesting to read, even though the author would later change is opinion about the movie (he wrote the afterword after viewing the uncut version of the film which ran almost 3 hours long).
I’ll keep it travelling soon.
