Beryl Markham was a remarkable woman and her memoir of her life in Africa is beautifully written. I am registering and releasing this book in honor of another remarkable woman who had a passion for Africa.
Sent to a fellow BookCrosser in memory of her beloved mother.
I just received this today May 9,2003 from Mandali and as well as it being about a gutsy women, it's about Africa. Can't wait.
I really really enjoyed this book and didn't want it to end. I was very disheartened when I finished it, when I went on line, and discovered that she may have not actually written it. In collusion with her husband Raoul Schumacher (writer, journalist), the book was created, based on her manuscripts. This is yet another reason why I don't read to much about a book before I read it. Had I known about this before hand I would have questioned every descriptive word. I don't really care who wrote it. I thouroughly enjoyed it and SOMEONE writes beautifully.
"...the Elkingtons' tea-table--round, capacious, and white, standing with sturdy legs against the green vines of the garden, a thousand miles of Africa receding from its edge." pg 60 Ahhhh, Africa receding from its edge. I can picture it.
Beryl Markham was one gutsy woman ,ahead of her time, and I do want to find a bio on her now. Thanks again Mandali

It's very hard for me to part with this book, and Thank You so much Mandali for sharing it with me. A resident where I work has a copy (I have really good "book eyes") so I know if need be, I can borrow their copy. I'm sending this on it's very merry BookCrossing way to Kymberlie, 9-18-03.
Received this at some point while I was in the hospital - thanks, gategrl! Going on my to be read pile.
