Received in the mail today. Thank you very much. I will be reading this shortly.
I read this book last evening after bowling. The book deals with the loss of a young man, 19, who was trying to find himself. His parents are blaming each other while trying to understand what happened and why. Death is never easy for anyone to deal come to grips with, though these parents are aided a bit by the tales of the last man to experience life with their son: the skipper of the ship.
These 64 pages were well worth the read. Thank you so much for sharing.
10/18/2008 on the way to the next reader. I have decided to share this book with a winner from the forums.

Such cute little books! I'm about halfway through this one and, although it's sad to read, I'm enjoying it very much. I've always enjoyed David Guterson's writing very much.
***
It was beautifully written, as I would have expected, but somehow I didn't feel much sense of satisfaction when I finished it. I guess it seemed more like an excerpt than a self-contained short story.
