Jonathan Livingston Seagull came out of Dottie's box second, but only because it wasn't binding-up like the first. This one's a 1001 book, so it's automatically on my "gotta read it" list, but also, when I looked inside, it just struck me as a book I'm going to want to have a copy of, even if it's just a little while. I had previously been on a bookring list for this title, and had to get bumped due to downpour of ring books, but I think I'll like being able to take my time with it much better. The quotes and snippets I've caught in discussion of it on the 1001mustreadbooks yahoo! group have convinced me this is a book not to pass up! Thanks so much, buocl, for adding it to Dottie's box. It's kismet, I tell you!

I arrived on Friday evening at my friend's house. She had strongly urged me, back in January, to read this book first this year when I put it on my challenge list of books to read for the year. I didn't. She was so shocked that I hadn't read it yet, that she literally threw me down on the guest-room bed, and read the book aloud to me, because she felt so strongly that I shoudl read it. Well, she read aloud until the end of part one, where she got so choked up she had to pass the book to me and I read the rest, aloud, 'til the end. It was a lovely way to pass a little time, and a great way to share the story! She says that she keeps her copy around to read anytime she's feeling... unmotivated. :-)
I really enjoyed this book. The descriptions of the mid-air tactics and stunt-flying are wondefully entertaining, and I laughed a lot. The photographs were nice, and I got to wondering whether Bach had taken all these photos before or after he came up with the idea to write a book with a cast of seagulls. This really was a book well worth the read! I'm so glad that I have read it now.

I've volunteered to host a bookring for this slim volume with the 1001mustreadbooks yahoo! group. I'll post a list if there is any interest. I hope there is ;-)
