This book was bought at Half Price Books in Madison, WI while I was one a research trip there. It is followed in this series by Fifth Quarter.
Annice was born a princess but chose the life of a bard. Bards Sing to the kigh, small elemental creatures, to influence the four elements. Part of being of the royal line though meant that in choosing here music and magic she had to give up her right to have children.
There is much to love about this book. Music is something I love incorporated into fantasy in general. As an avid knitter I was amused at a few references to knitting. I thought that it was really unusual and interesting to have the main character be openly bisexual (apparently an open relationship). This book didn't have a ton of depth, but I still enjoyed it a great deal.
This book contains mild sexual innuendo, violence and a same sex couple.
