Ella Minnow Pea is a girl living happily on the fictional island of Nollop off the coast of South Carolina. Nollop was named after Nevin Nollop, author of the immortal pangram,* “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.” Now Ella finds herself acting to save her friends, family, and fellow citizens from the encroaching totalitarianism of the island’s Council, which has banned the use of certain letters of the alphabet as they fall from a memorial statue of Nevin Nollop. As the letters progressively drop from the statue they also disappear from the novel.

Enjoyed this -a really interesting idea and a book that lovers of words would really enjoy.
Sorry brief entry as I am catching up on my journal entries and it is a while since I read it.

I have started reading this tonight, as part of the Hot Reads for Cold Nights Reading Challenge.
Allready at page 23, I see that there are going to be a lot of fancy words used in this book!!

Finished the book this morning.
A great story, fun to read as it was all in letters.
So sad that the people of Nollop were forced to use less and less letters as they fell.
And for people to be sent away from their own homes like that. Families torn apart, people dying. And all because the letters fell.
I found with less letters the book got harder to read, as the English got worse.
Luckily there was a happy ending.

This book was a complete load of rubbish BUT at the same time very clever and amusing. I found it entertaining and funny but still complete hogwash!
