La Cucina

Picked this up today for $4 from my little bookshop in Spotswood. I have seen this book on the sidebar a few times and decided I needed it!
I was interested to read this book because I enjoyed the author's novel Chocolat and also because it was set in Sicily - where my mother and I spent a few days in 2002.
I was quite surprised though as the novel was more of a bodice-ripper than literature - full of romantic love and sexual descriptions.
Rosa told the story of her life through cooking - using recipes of Sicily which made my mouth water. The story was based around the frenetic cooking Rosa did during significant life events - the death of her first lover, during the tumultuous relationship of her mature life with her lover L'Inglese, and after the death of her mother. Sometimes the story was almost X-rated but I did enjoy viewing life in Sicily through cooking, love, life and death- whether by fair means or foul.

This looked like it would be interesting, so I picked it up from the meet-up last night.
