This was a light, frothy read that made me laugh out loud in places. The way the three central characters, Stuart, Gillian and Oliver take it in turns to be downtrodden, ecstatic, egoistic, petty and cruel is skillfully constructed. The other Julian Barnes book I have on my bookshelf now is "Porcupine". I'm also hoping to read "Arthur and George" and "Flaubert's Parrot". Going by the amazing reviews I've read of these titles, they couldn't be more different to "Talking It Over" in terms of weightiness and longevity.
