Atmospheric novel set in the thirties around the building of the Haweswater dam in Cumbria and the flooding of the village of Mardale. Haunting, sad, well-written in a slightly prolix style which took me a bit of getting used to.

A good book with a distinctive style, just the thing for a rather muddy few days in the Lakes. Didn't get to Haweswater itself but cycled over the earlier dam at Thirlmere, mentioned in the book.
