DATING! DRAMA! DRIVING!

Remember what it was like to be sixteen? Whether it was the year your teeth were finally free of braces or the year you were discovered by the opposite sex, that magical, mystical age is something you will never forget. Edited by Megan McCafferty, Sixteen: Stories About That Sweet and Bitter Birthday is a compilation of short stories inspired by all the angst, melodrama, and wonderment of being sixteen.

The book contains stories by Sarah Dessen, Zoe Trope, Julianna Baggott, Ned Vizzini, Emma Forrest, Carolyn Mackler, David Levithan, Sonya Sones, Steve Almond, Cat Bauer, Joseph Weisberg, Jacqueline Woodson, Sarah Mlynowski, Tanuja Desai Hidier, and M.T. Anderson.

Also included, for fans of McCafferty's Sloppy Firsts and Second Helpings, is a new Jessica Darling story about the last fifteen minutes Jessica spends - or rather, doesn't spend - with her best friend Hope, who is leaving Pineville.

These hilarious, poignant, and touching tales are perfect for both those who have yet to reach that milestone and those who want to reminisce about their "sweetest" year.

A few of these stories were enjoyable, especially Megan McCafferty's and Sarah Dessen's. The rest were mediocre, and a couple were just downright awful.

Could not make contact with the person I originally believed was going to take this book and ray it, so BigBird2002 has stepped up to the plate!
Thanks for the helping hand!

Arrived in the mail today. I really needed something like this right now. It looks like a fast read and doesn't need too much concentration. This looks great, and I will organize the ray as soon as I am finished. Thank you!

I have to admit I gave up on this book about half way through. Although most of the stories I did read were okay, I wasn't impressed by any of them. Some of them I found to be obscene. Am I getting prudish in my old age? I think this would be a great read for someone who was more open minded than me. I will organize a bookray with this book right away.

This just arrived today and I'm excited about reading it. I'll set aside everything else to get started on it so as to move it along quickly. Thanks for sharing!

Journal Entry 9 by Firegirl from Tucson, Arizona USA on Tuesday, November 2, 2004
This was a decent read. Some of the stories really struck a chord with me. While there is a fair amount of sexuality, I wouldn't consider it "obscene". (Yeah, maybe a TAD bit prudish in your age, BB, but we still love you!) I remember turning sixteen and all the dreams and craziness that comes with it - this book definitely brought back even more memories. Thanks for sharing. I'll be contacting the next person on the list and mailing it out ASAP.

Off to the next in the bookray!

These stories were definitely not what I'd expected. Some were light and sweet, some were dark and disturbing. I particulary liked those by Sarah Dessen, Sarah Mlynowski, and Megan McCaffrey. I'm actually thinking about reading Sloppy Firsts and Second Helpings now to see what's happening with the character in the prequel included in Sixteen!

Off to SweetPea0678 as soon as I find her address. How do I keep losing it?!?!?

I've got several bookrings in front of this, but since I'm the last of the ray I s'pose it's not going to hurt if it takes a bit longer to get to. :) If someone gets added, just let me know and I'll try getting to it sooner. Thanks for sharing!!!!
