OK: there is a 50/50 chance that the BookCrossing ID on this copy of COFFIN ROAD is incorrect as there was a glitch at the moment I made the registration for one copy and two registrations were made, instead. I believe the BCID either ends in: 9134 or 9136 but cannot be sure as the book was gone by the time I realised the hic-cup and went back to the release location to check the number I actually noted on the bookplate. So… I am hoping that someone one day makes a journal entry on either of these numbers so I can connect what BCID is actually on this copy of COFFIN ROAD. [NB: you do not need to join BookCrossing to leave a journal entry on the books record, thanks rainbow3.]

'A riveting, atmospheric read' The Times
'A chilling standalone mystery' Daily Record

A MAN stands bewildered on a deserted beach on the Hebridean Isle of Harris. He cannot remember who he is. The only clue to his identity is a folded map of a path named the coffin Road. He does not know where this search will take him.

A DETECTIVE from Lewis sits aboard a boat filled with doubt. DS George Gunn knows that a bludgeoned corpse has been discovered on a remote rock twenty miles offshore. He does not know if he has what it takes to uncover how and why.

A TEENAGE GIRL lies in her Edinburgh bedroom, desperate to discover the truth about her scientist father’s suicide. Two years on, Karen Fleming still cannot accept that he would wilfully abandon her. She does not yet know his secret.

Wow, brilliant title and so convoluted, it was as ‘riveting’ and ‘chilling’ as mentioned above. It definitely slid into that ‘burning midnight oil till done’ category! I cannot say I was convinced that the condition, dissociative amnesia would present like this in such a selective manner but what do I know, and in any event worth suspension of belief for the pivotal role it played in the narrative. Plus there was the added excitement of scooting off to the internet to view maps and photographs of the landscapes described see how heart-achingly beautiful this scenery is. I’ve visited the wonderful West Coast of Scotland and the stunning Isle of Skye though not been to the Western Isles, of course now I’m itching to travel there. I had an uncle who hailed from Lewis but as most of my relatives are in Orkney those are the islands I have visited most often.

Cracking read when this gets where it’s going it is chilling! May’s narrative power, strength of characterisation, and vigorous plots plus the ability to convey the scientific premise quite clearly make Coffin Road compelling reading.

Glad to have an inkling of the utterly disruptive nature of the neonicotinoid pesticides agrochemical companies are developing for profit and how they adversely affect the memory of bees causing them to forget how to collect pollen. Dementia for bees almost and what a truly nightmarish thought that is when we know the world depends on bees - and their astounding memories - for the good they do!

WE HUMANS NEED TO TAKE ACTION - SAVE THE BEES!!!
