The excellent Maisie Dobbs series begins here. Spring 1929 in England, ten years after the end of World War I. Winspear's characters are "well drawn" and interesting. Follow Maisie as she moves from a girl "in service," to an apt student, to a nurse in France during the war. And from there to private detective.
Winspear's/Dobbs' mysteries each serve to illuminate British society between the World Wars.
