Journal Entry 1 by Constant-caver from Derby, Derbyshire United Kingdom on Saturday, January 17, 2004
An intriguing and uplifting story. Ed Hommer, a pilot whose legs were amputated after a terrible crash on Mount McKinley in Alaska, which also killed his brother in law and wrecked his marriage, overcame disability and depression to eventually return to the mountain and, on his second attempt, conquer it - if one can ever do that, for all constant cavers know that all you can ever really conquer is yourself. Told with wit, clarity and a nice tongue in cheek in places, this is a worthy addition to such mountain stories as Beck Weathers' "Left For Dead", Joe Simpson's "Touching the Void", and Jon Krakeur's various books.

My husband read this with some enthusiasm, although he did comment that she was a little self obsessed.
