Reading Lolita in Tehran: A Memoir in Books

One of my Christmas presents. Not for release. Haven't read yet.
The beginning of this book was a little choppy, but the author found her stride a couple of chapters in and after that, I loved it. I think this is a really important book to read...for women, for lovers of great literature, for people who appreciate (or don't appreciate enough) the joys of freedom. There were parts of this book that would really make me angry...not because of the book itself but because of the things I see happening in our own country as religion moves more and more into the political realm. Politics and religion should NEVER mix. If this book teaches anything, I would hope it teaches that. I'm going to open this book by invitation only to a few people for a bookring, as I'd like to see what others have to say about it.
Sent this off to anoisblue. When you're finished with it, send a PM to MarthaMinx and get her address to forward it on to her. If you aren't familiar with the PM system, just contact me and I'll get her address for you :) I hope you enjoy the book!
Kikimasu sent me this book awhile ago and I've just finished reading it. It's an excellent read --interesting, human, and timely.
The book is in the mail and on the way to Krista in Victoria, BC.
Kikimasu - thank you so much for the experience. I find myself thinking of it often in relation to the current events in the Middle East.
