This book is brilliant! I was introduced to Evelyn Waugh by my sister who demanded that I read Decline and Fall, so I went and read Scoop instead, and was instantly hooked! It reeks of imperial England, and all the blinkered idiocy that accompanied that great age with a stiff upper lip firmly in its cheek. Waugh seems to have a love/hate relationship with the establishment of which he was so obviously a product, and it is that combination of biting satire and empathy that makes his books so hilarious. I have since read Decline and Fall, and that too is very funny, and highly recommended.

I left this book in the research centre in the basement amongst all the newspapers. Got quite a history this book, an old relic from my family past, so feel kind of bad getting rid of it. Anyway I have a brand new copy of the book so I won't get sentimental.
