In Easter in Reading - a bad time for eggs - and the shattered, tuxedo-clad corpse of local businessman Humpty Stuyvesant Van Dumpty III has been found lying beneath a wall in a shabby part of town. Humpty was one of life's good guys - so who would want to him knocked off? And is it a coincidence that his ex-wife has just met with a sticky end down at the local biscuit factory? A hardened cop on the mean streets of the Thames Valley's most dangerous precinct, DI Jack Spratt has seen it all and something tells him this is going to be a tough case to crack...

Well it's safe to say this book had me confused. At first I wasn't sure if I liked it. At first I thought the ideas were too much like the Thursday Next series and I wondered if this book was going to spoil it for me because I didn't think it was as good. But, I got addicted to wanting to know which nursery character would turn up next. The twists and turns were a little overly complicated sometimes but by the end I was really wanting to know what happened. And I'm pleased the next book in the series in coming to me in a bookray.

Unfortunately this was not really my cup of tea. I’ve never really read or been read to nursery rhymes in English so even if I recognised most of the nursery characters I just didn’t feel the connection. And I failed to be able to see the characters as ”real” characters to really care who did it and who didn’t do it.
