Hello - I am Marti. Family members call me Cherrie and my grandchildren call me Grandma Jack. My husband and I live in a beautiful little town in Southern Utah called Saint George.

When I joined BookCrossings in 2003 we had two beautiful pets. Nike, a German Shepherd and little Samantha, a tiny Mutchkin Tabby. Since then they both have crossed the rainbow bridge. We miss them very much

We live a simple life in a small little home. Jack golfs, is an avid cyclist, and watches sports.....I love to read. I work for and exercise at Curves. We love being with our family.

We are now serving a mission for our church. It is called Warm Springs Ranch in Moapa, Nevada. It is a place of peace and fun where our church members can take their families and enjoy good clean fun and recreation. Please see our web site that our son created for us!

Together we have ten adult children (9 living) and 8 grandchildrenn.

Jack and I both retired from the military. He served for 40 years, 8months and 11 days (but who's counting, right?) and I served 20 years (that is where I got my nick-name Marti). What a wonderful experience it was serving our country.

I released my first nine books on September 2, 2003. What an event that was. I chose to release my books late at night so I could place my books without anyone seeing me. I was so excited about what I was doing that I forgot my drivers licence. My husband was sleeping and didn't know I was gone. After I released my last book I headed home feeling wonderful......then.....in the darkness of the night.......the dreadful gum ball lights were demanding that I pull over. I was pulled over for "not making a complete stop at the stop sign". This was at 1:30 a.m. in the morning! As I generously apologized for my transgression I showed the officer my long list of "released books" and told him about BookCrossings. I explained that I had wrapped
my books like little presents and that I was secretly doing random acts of kindness. He kindly said he was "looking for the 'bad guys' and he didn't find one" when he stopped me. As he smiled and sent me on my way......he suggested, in a nice way, that my registration was expired and that it would be good to get it taken care of asap. OH MY HECK! "Yes, I will do that right away." I will never forget my first releasing experience on Sept. 2nd 2003!

I learned to love to read when I was a young girl staying with my aunt Laura Lee and uncle George, in San Bernardino, California in the '50's. My uncle worked for a magazine company and when I stayed with them in the summer time he would bring home books and magazines for me that were perfect for my age. I spent hours reading, not realizing that he and my aunt were planting wonderful habits and enjoyment for the rest of my life (not to mention that the books were keeping me from being horribly homesick!)

BookCrossings.com is a wonderful place to visit. Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Hornbaker, for your time and talent, that you have given to us, to enable us to visit and get lost in the world of books!
