My daughter introduced me to the www.amazon.com/---/104-5089854-3290368" target="_blank">His Dark Materiels trilogy by Phillip Pullman; targeted to young adults, it has been compared to Milton's Paradise Lost and is a surprisingly rich, sophisticated, and dark set of tales given one's expectations for the target audience.
