Modernista Old Café & Tapas Bar is an Art Nouveau-inspired space located in the center of the old Beijing. A place for Beijing foreign and Chinese residents to meet and for travellers to stop by and have a glimpse of how life is in this immense city.

We have plenty of events going on every month, from live music to swing dance classes, from drawing to stand-up comedy, DJs, photo expositions, book crossing, movie screenings, etc. We also have simple but good Spanish & Italian food and great selection of drinks, being well-known for our selection of absinthes, which we serve in the traditional European way.

We also love books, and our shelves are full of them. Beijing is now again, like it was in the past, a fabulous cosmopolitan city, full of people from everywhere in the world coming and leaving, always taking a part of it and leaving a part of themselves. So there are our books. You will find here books in many different languages, coming from many different places and left by many different people. We remember the people who owned them, and the people who take them away. Sometimes books come back, and we would love to know where they have been and how they find their way back. Like some of those people do too!
