This book was passed on to me for the birthday rabck group, thank you very much lemon-crisis :)

Based on a real murder at the turn of the century, this outstanding debut novel - winner of the Carnegie medal - is a powerful and moving coming-of-age book. Mattie is torn between her familial responsibilities, her desire to be a writer and the excitement of a first romance. Her dilemmas and choices are quietly reflected in the life of a young woman found drowned in a lake, a woman that Mattie only gets to know through reading her letters.
When finally the tales of Mattie and the drowned girl merge, their stories beautifully combine in a brilliant and perfect conclusion"

This was a wish list book, so I am especially looking forward to reading it :)

Well... I was expecting a murder story but that's not what I got, it was more a coming-of-age story, but it was absolutely brilliant. I loved the story and I found the main character - Mattie - 100% credible. I could see myself in her, sometimes. I love the characters of Miss Wilcox and most especially Weaver.
I'm really glad I had the chance to read this book (thanks again, Lemon-Crisis!) and now I hope it will go to a good home...

Congratulations on winning the EU birthday sweepstake, Hayes13! Unfortunately I don't have any of the books on your wishlist but having browsed your wishlist, I thought you might like this one. I did - it has become one of my favourite books - so I hope you enjoy it, too!
Happy Reading!
Happy Reading!
Thank you! Book arrived this morning and it looks wonderful. I don't know when I will be able to get to it, but I will read it and then send it on its way again.
:-)
ETA: Have realized that this is "A Northern Light", which has been on my GR to read list, so I am even happier than I was before! Thank you again.
