A factual account of medical sciences insensitivity and injustice in using a poor black womans cancer cells without her knowldge, or subsequently informing her next of kin of the multi-million dollar industry which resulted. It not only speaks of the attitudes of the times, but of the affect upon a family. The book is a personal account of Rebecca Skloot's befriending of he family as well as her investigation into Henrietta Lacks history.
