Troubling book. The images and writing are evocative, but I'm not sure. Sending it off to a better home.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Left on the shelves. Nice place, they've redocrated a bit AND they have Zander's Soups now!
I found this in a boulevard garden Little Free Library in Dayton's Bluff, St Paul. As I read, I realized I had started this novel before and couldn't get into it. This time I did and found it to be not quite as intriguing as others had told me, but one I wanted to finish to see how the characters evolved. I think, too, that I wanted to finish it, not so much for the plot, but that at this same time, 1965, I think it began, I was newly married and had my first child a year later. I remember the whispering society on almost every level; the lack of knowledge or information of 'Down' babies, and the rather well-known option of letting them die when the opportunity conveniently arose; validating being a 'housewife' and enjoying it and finding satisfying work outside; and, of course, the protests. The author beautifully captured the time period as well as the intertwining of the characters and their individual personalities. I especially appreciated watching Paul mature. As I write this, I realize I got more from the writing than I first realized, so complicated were the personalities of the characters. A nine, not a seven.
Released in Dayton's Bluff, Free Little Library, at Fourth & Bates
