Journal Entry 1 by wingminesaynwing from Huron, Ohio USA on Thursday, April 28, 2011
My favorite book ever! And answers the question: Who is John Galt?

From the back cover: The astounding story of a man who said that he would stop the motor of the world--and did. Tremendous in scope, breathtaking in its suspense, "Atlas Shrugged" is unlike any other book you have ever read. It is a mystery story, not about the murder of a man's body, but about the murder--and rebirth--of man's spirit.

Taking into account shipping preferences, the book ring is as follows:
International ring (Book 1)
VictoriaWagtail (Sweden)
sedna5213 (Germany) on its way
shovelmonkey (UK)
LilyKlip (Germany)
PJLBewdy (Australia)
Nakipa (Portugal)
minesayn

US/Canada ring (Book 2)
iwillrejoice (USA) done (reading own copy)
minesayn (USA) done (sent to Operation Paperback.org)

If any other readers wish to join the ring, feel free to let me know so that I can add you to the list; however be aware that placement in the ring will be such that no one is adversely affected by postage/shipping costs.

Just a suggestion...if you are not into philosophy, skip most of the chapter "This is John Galt Speaking" (read the first couple pages and the last five pages of it); you'll get the gist of her philosophy of Objectivism. Otherwise, expect several hours of reading that chapter alone. I usually read it all, but sometimes it is a bit much even for me, so be forewarned. Thanks for choosing to read my favorite novel of all time.

Thank you med.

I haven't actually finished this yet - had a lot of rings/rays come at the same time! But I just discovered an old copy hidden on a bookshelf & not catalogued, so I didn't know I had it. So, rather than hold you up any longer, I'll go ahead & send this book back to you, minesayn. Thanks for sharing! I've been enjoying it. Amazing how so much of it is relevant for today.

Arrived safe and well this morning -thank you to everyone who has participated so far and to minesayn for sharing their most favourite book! I've got to finish reading two bookrings first (3 Trapped Tigers and Lanark, a life in four books), both which are fairly hefty reads from the 1001 books list, but I will try to be as quick with this as possible!

Journal Entry 16 by shovelmonkey1 at Liverpool, Merseyside United Kingdom on Thursday, November 17, 2011
Started reading this yesterday - still not really sure what to expect - but hopefully it will be on the road before Christmas!

I'm sending this on as I'm only half way through this book and don't want to be a book-hog so this will be travelling to Lily-klip today. I've not rated this book because I didn't finish it but I did enjoy the 500 pages or so that I had time to read. Thanks to everyone for their patience.

A challenging read, a good writer with an uncommon philosophy. Glad I soldiered on with this book. Should be travelling again soon.
